PENNDOT REMINDS MOTORISTS TO REMOVE SNOW, ICE FROM VEHICLES BEFORE TRAVELING.

-This new law was enacted in May 2007 (Act 37) states that when snow or ice is dislodged or falls from a moving vehicle and strikes another vehicle or pedestrian causing death or serious bodily injury, the operator of the vehicle from which the snow or ice came is subject to a fine of $200 to $1,000 for each offense.

NEW LAW REQUIRES MOTORISTS TO TURN ON HEADLIHGTS WHEN USING WIPERS.

-This law when into effect January 2008 will require motorists to turn on their headlights anytime their vehicles wipers are in continuous or intermittent use due to weather or other atmospheric conditions such as fog or mist.

-The law also states that the operator of a vehicle upon a highway shall display lighted head lamps between sunset and sunrise and when the operator cannot discern a person or vehicle upon the highway from a distance of 1,000 feet due to insufficient light or unfavorable atmospheric conditions, including rain, snow, sleet, hail, fog, smoke or smog.

Motorists who do not comply with the law could face a fine of $25, but with fees and other associated costs, the penalty would approch $100.
